Old Post Office has a lovely view across the loch
"2 weeks in heaven (again!) 1 week last year was ‘just’ not long enough. Enjoyed this year as much if not more. Debate is on re 3 weeks next year!!" Noblett family June 2011 (from Visitors' Book)
Old Post Office stands by a quiet road with spectacular views over Dunalastair Loch to Schiehallion. Many interesting waterfowl can be seen, together with otters, osprey, pine marten and other rare wildlife. The orchids along the lochside in the spring are magnificent and there is an abundance of other wild flowers. In winter there are about 30 whooper swans visiting the loch, which is a lovely sight and sound.
This pretty, traditional stone holiday cottage, as the name implies, used to be the estate's own post office in days gone by. The sitting room, which has dramatic views south and west towards Schiehallion (1083m), Dunalastair Loch and Ben-a-Chuallaich, is comfortably and colourfully furnished with sofas and easy chairs, wall lights, table lamps, and a wood burning stove.
The well-equipped kitchen/dining room has a view of the loch and a small birch wood filled with daffodils in spring. There is a twin bedroom, facing west over fields and hills. The double bedroom has a standard double bed and has a lovely view out towards Ben-a-Chuallaich. The third bedroom forms another twin bedroom. The bathroom has bath with shower over, basin and W.C.
This lovely holiday home has an enclosed garden with tubs, roses and clematis. A burn (stream) runs through it and an old-fashioned red (public) telephone box stands nearby. The front garden is enclosed within the garden to keep small children away from the burn.
You can go walking directly from the cottage either along the lochside or to the hills or around the extensive estate tracks.
"Had a great week, don’t want to go home. Wish we could stay on
Location of Old Post Office spot on. View is stunning. Seen deer, hares and we think either an osprey or buzzard not sure which one it was. Hope to come back again soon." The Jacksons, Durham. June 2011 From Visitors' Book. (They probably saw an osprey as they hunt for fish on the loch in front of the cottage - Rose La T)
