Old Post Office
Old Post Office stands by a quiet road with spectacular views over Dunalastair Loch to Schiehallion. Many interesting waterfowl can be seen, together with otters, osprey, pine marten and other rare wildlife. The orchids along the lochside in the spring are magnificent and there is an abundance of other wild flowers. In winter there are about 30 whooper swans visiting the loch, which is a lovely sight and sound.
This pretty, traditional stone cottage, as the name implies, used to be the estate's own post office in days gone by. The sitting room, which has dramatic views south and west towards Schiehallion (1083m), Dunalastair Loch and Ben-a-Chuallaich, is comfortably and colourfully furnished with sofas and easy chairs, wall lights, table lamps, and a wood burning stove (logs provided).
The well-equipped kitchen/dining room has a view of the loch and a small birch wood. There is a twin bedroom, facing west over fields and hills. The double bedroom has a standard double bed and has a lovely view out towards Ben-a-Chuallaich. The third bedroom has recently been enlarged to form a second twin bedroom. The bathroom has bath with shower over, basin and W.C.
The cottage has an enclosed garden with tubs, roses, clematis and a mass of daffodils amongst the birches in spring. A burn (stream) runs through it and an old-fashioned red (public) telephone box stands nearby. The front garden is enclosed within the garden to keep small children away from the burn.
You can go walking directly from the cottage either along the lochside or to the hills or around the extensive estate tracks.
