East Lodge - Your own romantic mini castle
Take a holiday in your own romantic mini castle!
This truly exceptional holiday house is set in woodland beside a most attractive boulder-strewn stretch of the River Tummel where you can fish for trout. The Queen's Pool is just in front of the house - legend has it that Robert the Bruce ferried his queen across the river here. The view across the river to Schiehallion is spectacular. (East Lodge is about 200 yards across grass and heather from Tuim Cottage so they could be rented together for a larger party.)
The sitting room is light and airy with three windows, the main one facing the river. It has sofas and easy chairs and attractive original fireplace with open fire. Like the other cottages, it has plenty of books and puzzles.
The kitchen/dining room has dining table and chairs and is very well equipped.
A ground floor twin bedroom has two single beds and it has three windows facing the pine woods. There is a small shower-room next to it with shower, basin and W.C. There is a TV/DVD player together with a sofa in this bedroom in addition to the ones in the sitting room.
On the first floor there is a twin bedroom, a double bedroom with kingsize four-poster bed, and a bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC.
Leading from the double room, but curtained off, is a steep narrow staircase to the second floor twin bedroom. (The stair is unsuitable for the elderly or infirm or small children).
There is a lovely walk from the cottage through the pine woods along the riverside in both directions. To the east a few hundred yards away are some attractive falls amongst the boulders and pine trees. By the house there is a stretch of the river known as the Queen's Pool where you can fish for trout and you can sometimes see salmon. Legend has it that this was where Robert the Bruce ferried his wife across the river.
This listed building was built by the present owner's great-grandfather as the gate lodge of the east drive to Dunalastair House in 1892, although the drive is no longer in use.
"We just love the peace the rest and we have been all over and in top class hotels but nothing beats the lodge, its great to be able to just come in take off your boots and flop out. H.S. May2011."
